Tadaoki Hosokawa was a fierce warrior who could not control his feelings, but his political sense was distinguished. Tadaoki took an active part in the Position of Bunroku-Keicho. However, Mitsunari did not regard him highly.
As a result, Nagamasa did not get along with Mitsunari, he became closer to Ieyasu after Hideyoshi's death. Mitunari executed hostage missions. He forbid the children and wives of the daimyos, (who had conquered the east in the Uesugi conquest), to return home and selected some hostages.” Tadaoki's wife Gracia refused to become a hostage. When Gracia was preparing to commit suicide, one chief retainer(who served as suicide assistant,) set off an explosive in the residence.
Because of this incident Tadaoki conceived a deep hatred for Mitsunari. Tadakoi fought a fierce battle against Mitsunari in the Battle of Sekigahara.
